Maria Lioudyno, Ph.D.
Assistant Researcher

Matthew Mahavongtrakul, Ph.D
mmahavon@uci.edu

Matt’s research focuses on hyperexcitabilty preceding cognitive impairment in the ZnT3KO mouse model of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Matt enjoys watching hockey (Go Ducks!) whenever he has a chance. He is also an avid gamer and swears by the Bioshock series. In addition, he can talk about food literally all day and loves finding new places to eat. One of his passions is working up a sweat at Full Psycle, where he’s always trying to improve his PR. He loves the outdoors and has hiked many trails around OC. Lastly, he has made his backyard a frequent stop for visiting birds and has built a pond (named Pondtopia) which has grown into its own ecosystem, fit with fish, water snails, plants, and frogs!

Carlene Chinn, B.A.
Research Technician
cachinn@uci.edu

Carlene is one of those people who believe that listening to music is a hobby within itself. When she’s not singing, playing piano, or browsing the web for new songs to get lost in (or new documentaries on Netflix), she enjoys looking for recipes to cook or bake. She is a true SoCal native, loving the sun and the beach or any fresh, outdoor view. She loves animals, especially dogs, and hopes to one day own two Corgis. Above everything, she values meaningful talks with friends, quality time with quality people, and her mom’s homemade beef stew.

Cindy Tang
Undergraduate Researcher
tangc7@uci.edu

For the first eighteen years of her life, Cindy lived in the East Los Angeles Area (626!) She has a weak spot for anything related to dogs and milk teas. In her free time, she enjoys watching shows on Netflix, such as Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds. You can also catch her going out to eat with friends or going to Disneyland. She is also an amateur photographer and hopes to greatly improve her skills. One day, she hopes to go to Joshua Tree National Park and camp out under a sea of stars.

Brandon Nguyen
Undergraduate Researcher
brandhn4@uci.edu

Brandon is a huge sports fanatic. He follows many sports and can talk about it for hours and hours, including soccer (Manchester United!), baseball (Los Angeles Angels!), basketball (Lakers!), hockey (Anaheim Ducks!), and tennis. He also loves to Netflix and watch mystery shows and any show from Shondaland. He loves to travel and do any outdoor activities that include water like snorkeling, paddleboarding, and swimming in the ocean. It’s a dream of his to be able to backpack through Europe and learn about the history and culture of the countries. Brandon is a fan of The Chainsmokers and loves to play their music when he wants to chill or go to the gym. Lastly, he makes it a goal of his to try as many different types of wine and become a wine connoisseur. But if that plan doesn’t work out, he is perfectly okay with being an expert in the art of owning corgis.
