Professor Dollar wins NSF CAREER Award

Professor Dollar has been awarded a Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award in the Accelerator Science program by the National Science Foundation. The CAREER Program is the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious award in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research.

Announcing STROBE, an NSF Science & Technology Center

Professor Dollar is the UCI lead for a new collaborative partnership awarded $24 million by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to launch a new center based on imaging, materials, nano, bio and energy sciences.

The Science and Technology Center on Real-Time Functional Imaging, known as STROBE, will be headquartered at CU Boulder and will integrate several areas of imaging science and technology, including photon and electron-based imaging, advanced algorithms, big data analysis and adaptive imaging. Named for its relation to stroboscopic imaging, the center is designed to tackle major scientific challenges that have the potential to transform imaging science and technology. There is also a strong educational infrastructure which aims to increase engagement, awareness, and participation in optical science.

CU Boulder, along with UCLA, the University of California Berkeley, Florida International University, the University of California Irvine and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, has received the five-year NSF grant.

The Dollar lab will be recruiting graduate students and undergraduates for this effort.
