Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY)

NTER Lab actively participates in the CTY programs. We have opened up our lab, as part of the outreach day organized by CTY, for students and parents with fun demos and modules to test.

Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience (DECADE)

DECADE is an organization with the mission of increasing the number of women and underrepresented minorities receiving doctoral degrees at UCI. They provide guidance and support to make the grad school journey easier. “We are trying to involve more people from STEM. We plan two events every quarter, one professional and one social. With the professional event, we give the students the opportunity to learn about different resources and new perspectives. For example, a panel with people from industry and faculty to help the students decide their career path, or a discussion with professors and counselors on how to improve the communication between student and faculty. In addition, we help nearby primary schools to get more kids interested in science, last year we did a show on the different phases of water using liquid nitrogen to make in more spectacular.”
Laia, the co-chair of the school-based council of ICS&Engineering.

California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP)

The objective of CAMP is to strengthen the quality and quantity of underrepresented students receiving baccalaureate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at the University of California, Irvine by offering extensive resources and unique opportunities for the students. “CAMP focuses on helping students reach their maximum potential before they arrive, while at and after the leave UCI. We host several events throughout the year in which networking and learning is promoted. Additionally, CAMP sponsors two main programs, one for incoming freshman and one for continuing students, in which the students are exposed to STEM and are able to form long lasting connections. More specifically, the CAMP Summer Science Academy (CSSA) is a three-week residential program that prepares incoming freshmen for the transition from high school to UCI. CSSA emphasizes the development of critical thinking and concentrates on courses critical for the students’ career. On the other hand, CAMP’s Summer Science Scholars is a 10-week program that enables UCI students to conduct research at UCI during the summer under the mentorship of a faculty research advisor. Summer Scholars have gone on to present their research at conferences around the country in cities such as: Boston, Miami, Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, Austin, and many others!”
