Key Research Areas

Our research focusses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that can lead to the development of Alzheimer’s disease in old age, and on developing strategies to prevent the disease.

Broadly, we are interested in the role of microglia in the healthy and diseased brain, and formulating microglia based therapeutics for a number of disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Stroke.

Our program consists of several main areas:

1) The role of microglia in the healthy adult brain

2) Modulating microglial function/numbers in the diseased and injured brain

3) The Role of microglia in Alzheimer’s disease

4) Microglial Repopulation in the CNS; mechanisms, regulation, and therapeutic implications
