MRI Studies

Our MRI scanner is FDA-approved and safe for most individuals. The magnetic field contains no ionizing radiation and repeat MRI scans can be conducted safely. If you choose to participate in an MRI study, we will collect structural images of your brain as well as “functional” images in which we would look at activity in different regions of your brain while you are performing various cognitive tasks in the scanner. Below are just a few of our current MRI studies.

1) We are recruiting volunteers age 60 years and older for MRI studies of memory and mood. If you have been experiencing feelings of sadness, changes in mood, appetite or sleep, or have trouble concentrating or remembering things, you may be eligible. In addition to an MRI, you will complete a paper-and-pencil cognitive test of your thinking and memory. This study can usually be completed in a single 3-hour visit. You will be paid approximately $60 for the study, plus travel reimbursement. To learn more about the study or to determine your eligibility, please email Ms. Stephanie Leal at sleal@uci.edu or call 949-824-0314.
