Welcome

I am Associate Professor of Organization and Management in the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine.  I hold a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology.

My research examines the social underpinnings of people’s work lives in the creative and knowledge sectors. I study how people are hired into creative and knowledge-based occupations, the factors that shape their careers, and how they work with members of other occupations to solve problems. My work has been published in management and sociology journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, American Journal of Sociology, and Organization Science.

My research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, recognized with awards from professional associations such as the Academy of Management, and covered by popular media outlets such as the New York Times and Rolling Stone.

I am currently a senior editor at Organization Science. I also serve on the editorial board of Administrative Science Quarterly and previously served on the editorial board of the American Sociological Review

I teach the core organization and management course in Merage’s Fully Employed MBA Program, the opening intensives in the Full-Time MBA and Executive MBA Programs, a PhD seminar on organizational theory, and an undergraduate research practicum.
