I am Assistant Professor of Organization and Management in the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine. I hold a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology. In 2015, I received my PhD in Sociology from the University of Arizona.
My research examines the work of culture and the culture of work. I study the work of culture by investigating career and employment processes in cultural and creative fields. I study the culture of work by analyzing how culture is used as a resource or “toolkit” in the workplace. My work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and recognized with awards from the Academy of Management. Currently, I am a member of the editorial board of the American Sociological Review. Recent publications appear in Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Poetics, The Sociological Quarterly, and Science, Technology & Human Values, among others.
I teach the core course in organizational behavior in Merage’s Fully Employed MBA Program and the opening intensive in the Full-Time MBA Program. Before coming to the Merage School, I taught courses in social research methods and culture at the University of Arizona.
