We hosted the UCI/Sophion Bioscience 2023 Ion Channel Modulation Symposium at Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering, October 18-19, 2023, in Irvine. Channelologists from around the world treated us to compelling talks on a variety of channel themes. The 2 days were interspersed with great opportunities to socialize and form collaborations. The symposium was coupled with the UCI School of Medicine Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series in which Dr. Ardem Patapoutian gave a community lecture on the evening of October 17 to a packed house, and the symposium keynote on October 18 – both excellent talks on his Nobel prize-winning work on the molecular basis for sensing touch, pain and proprioception.
