Chrome Login Bug

Recently, we have had a few clients report issues logging into Faculty Websites. All of them have been using the Chrome browser. From what we’ve been able to tell through troubleshooting the issue, it seems to be a problem with stale cookies.

To test if this is the issue, try opening up your site in Incognito Mode.

Try a different browser.

We have not had anyone report issues with Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge.

Clear Cache and Cookies

To fix this issue, you will return to your normal browser mode (i.e. non-Incognito mode), and clear the cache and cookies.

To clear the cache files and cookies in Chrome, perform these steps:

Short Method

  1. In Chrome, locate and click on the “lock” icon in the upper left hand corner next to the site’s URL address.
  2. Click on “Cookies”, select “”, click on “Remove” and “Done”.
  3. If this does not work, please follow the steps below in “Long Method”.

Long Method

  1. Type in chrome://settings/?search=cache in Chrome’s URL text field
  2. Click on “Clear browsing data” (near the bottom of the list)
  3. Select the time range to a time BEFORE you began experiencing this issue
  4. Check mark “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files” and click the blue “Clear data” button at the bottom.

The process to clear the cache and cookies will run for a couple of minutes.

Once the process is done, close and re-open your browser and you should be able to login into your site without issue.
