SSL Update on September 12, 2018

We will be adding secure socket layer (SSL) to Faculty Websites on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 from approximately 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM. During this time, faculty.sites.uci.edu and all sub-sites may experience brief, intermittent downtime.

What is SSL?

SSL is a standard security protocol for establishing encrypted links between a web server and a browser. The usage of SSL ensures all data transmitted remains encrypted. The internal upgrades will improve security for your visitors to the UCI Faculty Sites website platform. An additional benefit is increased Google rankings for https sites as Google encourages a “more secure web”.

Update Your Links

After the upgrade to SSL, you can use https as part of the URL to your site. For example, the site faculty.sites.uci.edu would be cited as https://faculty.sites.uci.edu instead of http://faculty.sites.uci.edu . If you or your visitors use http://[name of your site], the browser will automatically redirect them to https://[name of your site] .

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 949.824.2222 or oit@uci.edu. Thank you.
