Radiology Outreach and Diversity Initiative
OUR MISSION
To promote awareness and interest in radiology to students from underserved and underrepresented communities.
OUR VISION
To attain a field of radiology that is as diverse and inclusive as the society it serves.
WHO ARE WE?
RODI (Radiology Outreach and Diversity Initiative) consists of attending physicians, residents, and medical students who share the goal of increasing diversity within radiology through outreach events that introduce medicine, radiology, and clinical research to high school and undergraduate students from primarily underrepresented communities. Our goal is to provide an introduction to medicine and radiology to students early in their education and career paths, with the long-term goal of attracting more underrepresented students to the field of radiology.
WHAT DO WE DO?
RODI’s diversity outreach events consist of easily accessible presentations for high school and undergraduate students from underrepresented communities with the goal of increasing exposure to the field of radiology. Students learn about diagnostic and interventional radiology, including the steps in becoming a radiologist, job satisfaction, salary and benefits, application advice, and a brief review of interesting cases. The presentation caters toward student knowledge and experience level. At the end of each session, the students have the opportunity to ask questions of medical students, residents, and attending physicians. As of May 2023, RODI has held events for over 140 high school and undergraduate students from all over Southern California. Our goal is to continue outreach events to share the world of radiology with students nationwide!
