Dear colleagues,

Dorota Skowronska KrawczykPlease join us in welcoming Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk, PhD to a joint appointment as an assistant professor in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Physiology & Biophysics at UCI School of Medicine.

Skowronska-Krawczyk is the newest addition to the Center for Translational Vision Research. The focus of her research is to understand the molecular mechanism of aging by studying the processes regulating gene expression in age-related diseases, with an emphasis on how coordinated changes in chromatin structure and nuclear organization affect cellular, metabolic and transcriptional programs.

We are delighted to have Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk join the Center for Translational Vision Research. With her talent, creativity and energy, she will become one of the scientific leaders of the CTVR.

Skowronska-Krawczyk has received many prestigious grants, and has also authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She has also been honored for her research and leadership in glaucoma and aging eyes. Skowronska-Krawczyk created Visions, a project in collaboration with artist Eva Henry, which connects art and science through the eye.

Skowronska-Krawczyk’s impressive credentials include an MSc in Biology from the University of Warsaw, Poland, a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Geneva, Switzerland focusing on the molecular basis of retinal development, and two post-doctoral fellowships at the Jules Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland and at UC San Diego. Skowronska-Krawczyk joined UCI from the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego.

Sincerely,
