Oladele (Dele) Ogunseitan holds the University of California Presidential Chair at UC Irvine, where he is also Professor and served as Founding Chair of the Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention for a dozen years.  He researches the intersection of industrial development and environmental quality to discover solutions to problems at the root of societal burden of disease.

Dele is the leading U.S. researcher and one of the world’s preeminent researchers on electronic waste (E-waste), where his expertise informs strategies to reduce toxic threats associated with ubiquitous consumer electronic products.  He co-chairs Apple Inc.’s Green Chemistry Advisory Board; co-directs the Lincoln Dynamic Foundation’s World Institute for Sustainable Development of Materials (WISDOM); directs the education program for the University of California Global Health Institute; and he directs Training and Empowerment objective for USAID’s One Health Workforce | Next Generation.  He served on California’s Green Ribbon Science Panel, and on the State’s Advisory Committee on the Community Protection and Hazardous Waste Reduction Initiative.  

Dele was a Jefferson Science Fellow of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, elected to the sections on Medical Sciences and Societal Impacts of Science and Technology for “distinguished contributions in studies using fundamental science to inform impacts of toxic components in manufacturing on human and environmental health with significant societal impacts.” He is a fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Manufacture, and Commerce.

I study unified theories of health and intrinsic trade-offs. I am interested in collaborations that promise understanding of nature and educating youth accordingly. I labor at the intersection of environment and health.
