Professor Dollar has been named as the Department of Physics & Astronomy’s new Vice-Chair of Inclusive Excellence, succeeding Professor Mu-Chun Chen who is now the Vice-Chair of Graduate Studies. As chair of the Inclusive Excellence committee, he organizes reporting, events, and initiatives for the department to improve overall climate and to support diversity. Matt Stanfield wins MAPS Fellowship
Matt Stanfield, a rising fourth year graduate student in the Dollar Research Group, has been awarded a two-year fellowship as part of the UCI MAPS (Machine Learning and Physical Sciences) program. UCI MAPS is funded from 2016 to 2021 as part of the National Science Foundation’s Research Traineeship (NRT) program.
Professor Dollar awarded tenure at UCI
As of July 1, 2019, the University of California, Irvine, has promoted Franklin Dollar from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor. This promotion awards tenure to Professor Dollar.
Professor Dollar wins NSF CAREER Award
Professor Dollar has been awarded a Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award in the Accelerator Science program by the National Science Foundation. The CAREER Program is the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious award in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research.
