Research performed in the Dollar Research Group is currently supported by the National Science Foundation through the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program (PHY-1753165), the plasma physics program (PHY-2308982), the NRT-DESE: Team Science for Integrative Graduate Training in Data Science and Physical Science program (DGE-1633631), and through the Science and Technology Center on Real-Time Functional Imaging (STROBE DMR-1548924). Research is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science under Grant No. DE-SC0023504. Computational support was funded by the National Science Foundation via the GreenPlanet computing cluster (CHE-0840513). Infrastructure in the group was supported by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and a gift from ASML.
The Dollar Research Group is a member of STROBE, a National Science Foundation Science & Technology Center.
Undergraduate Opportunities
Undergraduate research is a core component of research in the Dollar Lab. We commonly have students who engage in various projects based on their career ambitions and desired learning goals. Here are some of the programs we are involved in:
- UCI Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Apply Here
- STROBE Summer Undergraduate Research Scholarship (SURS) Apply Here
Graduate Opportunities
The Dollar lab recruits graduate students interested in ultrafast intense plasma physics. The Dollar lab has access to numerous experimental facilities and students will develop practical skillsets including designing and building optical setups; developing techniques in data acquisition and image analysis; and becoming an expert in scientific and high performance computing.
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at University of California, Irvine is a top-ranked program with a strong and historic focus on plasma physics. The modern campus is conveniently located in Orange County, California, within driving distance to Los Angeles, the Santa Ana Mountains, and is just minutes from the beach. Graduate student stipends are competitive, and family housing options are available. For more information on applying, please visit this website.
