Formatting Blocks

Formatting Blocks provide ways to format your Pages and Posts.

Classic Block

The Classic block lets you use the Classic editor within a block format. You can use the same formatting toolbar you are used to in the old classic editor. When you first convert your older Pages and Posts to Gutenberg, they will be in one large Classic block.

The Classic block brings back the old formatting toolbar.

Pullquote Block

The Pullquote block adds special emphasis to a quote from your text. It is similar to the Quote Block but is styled differently with greater emphasis. It can be used as a subheading or a graphic feature. The way it is displayed is dependent on the the theme’s CSS.

“The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace.”

Mahatma Ghandi

Table Block

The Table block can be used for displaying numbers, comparisons or any other type of tabular data in a table format. The current version is fairly limited with few styling options.

Verse Block

The Verse block is for writing poetry, song lyrics or other literary expressions. Unlike the paragraph block, it leaves all spaces and line breaks untouched.

Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire,
I do wander everywhere,
Swifter than the moon's sphere;
And I serve the fairy queen,
To dew her orbs upon the green.
The cowslips tall her pensioners be:
In their gold coats spots you see;
Those be rubies, fairy favours,
In those freckles live their savours:
I must go seek some dewdrops here
And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear.
Farewell, thou lob of spirits; I'll be gone:
Our queen and all our elves come here anon.

From “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Act 2, Scene 1 by William Shakespeare

Code Block

The code block helps you display technical pieces of code. It maintains all spaces and tabs so your code is displayed exactly as you type it.

Custom HTML

The Custom HTML block allows you to add any custom HTML code and preview it right in the editor.

Preformatted Block

The Preformatted block is very similar to the Code Block with a few small differences. Preformatted blocks keep all of the spaces and line breaks. They do come with a few more styling options.
