During the summer of 2021 and 2022, I initiated and implemented a six-week summer enrichment program for international students with the opportunity to conduct research in a university setting. Students were paired with faculty mentors to perform research on a specific topic for five weeks of the program. Since majority of the student participants did not have prior experiences in research, I developed and taught a series of lectures on research methods including the following:
- Literature review
- Research proposal
- Proof of concept
- Experimental design
- Data collection
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Publication
To further enrich the educational experience, research laboratory facility tours and an engineering company research division tour were arranged to demonstrate the wide range of equipment and tools used in various research projects, to inspire student interests in research.
