SCCLH NIH Pilot Award for New Project

Dr. Lindsay and colleagues in the Department of Pediatrics and School of Nursing received an NIH pilot award through the Southern California Center for Latino Health to develop and pilot test a culturally acceptable mindfulness intervention for low-income Spanish speaking Latina pregnant women. They will conduct this project in collaboration with the non-profit community organization, MOMS Orange County.

UCI SOM Dairy Council Award

Dr. Karen Lindsay and colleagues in the School of Medicine received the 2024 Let’s Eat Healthy Leadership award from Dairy Council of California for their community based research to advance nutrition equity for families in the first 1000 days.

UCI SOM New Investigator Award for new study

Dr. Lindsay received the UCI School of Medicine New Investigator award to conduct a study about the effects of mindfulness practice during pregnancy on blood glucose control among pregnant women with type 2 diabetes. This research will be in collaboration with Dr. Tamera Hatfield in UCI Obstetrics and Gynecology and with Providence St. Joseph Hospital – Orange.

Graduation with Honors status!

Congratulations to Daisy Kim, one of our recently graduated Bio 199 students from the Lindsay Lab, who was awarded Honors for her thesis project. Daisy analyzed data from our past “Mindfulness in Pregnancy study” with a focus on change in maternal psychological states from before and after the intervention.
