Dr. Sajjadi was named inaugural recipient of the Joan and Don Beall Scholar Award. The grant will provide $50,000 per year for five years and will be used to support research into biomarkers for limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (LATE).

Our lab published a paper titled “Association of vascular and degenerative brain pathologies and past medical history from the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center Database“ in the Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology on March 22nd.

Our lab published a paper in Neurology titled “Impact and Risk Factors of Limbic Predominant Age-Related TDP-43 Encephalopathy Neuropathologic Change in an Oldest-Old Cohort“ on January 10th.

The lab attended the Alzheimer Association’s 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Irvine Walk on October 1st.

Dr. Sajjadi gave the talk “Introducing LATE: An important underpinning of dementia in later life” at the 33rd Annual Southern California Alzheimer’s Disease Research Conference on September 9th.

August 2022: The lab was awarded an R21 grant to study the use of post-mortem MRI in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s mimics such as hippocampal sclerosis and small vessel lesions in the oldest-old.

Members of our lab (Dr. S. Ahmad Sajjadi, Dr. Davis Woodworth, and Dr. Giovanna Bubbico) presented 3 oral and 5 poster presentations at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2022, which took place from July 31st to August 4th. Dr. Sajjadi and Dr. Woodworth also chaired one session each.

May 2022: Hannah was awarded grants from the UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) Research and Mentorship Program (RAMP) and the National Institute on Aging (NIA) T35 Summer Medical student Aging and Alzheimer disease Research Training (SMAART) Program.
