I am Assistant Professor of Organization and Management in the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine. I hold a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology. In 2015, I received my PhD in Sociology from the University of Arizona.
My research examines the work of culture and the culture of work. I study the work of culture by investigating career and employment processes in cultural and creative fields. I study the culture of work by analyzing how culture is used as a resource or “toolkit” in the workplace. My work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and recognized with awards from the Academy of Management. Currently, I am a member of the editorial board of the American Sociological Review. Recent publications appear or are forthcoming in the American Journal of Sociology, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Poetics, The Sociological Quarterly, and Science, Technology & Human Values, among others.
I teach the core course in organizational behavior in Merage’s Fully Employed MBA Program and the opening intensive in the Full-Time MBA Program. Before coming to the Merage School, I taught courses in social research methods and culture at the University of Arizona.
