Dr. Sharief Taraman is the Division Chief of Pediatric Neurology & Medical Informaticist at CHOC Children’s, Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and the CHOC Site Director of the Clinical Informatics Fellowship at the University of California – Irvine, Affiliate Professor at Chapman University Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering, and Chief Medical Officer at Cognoa, Inc. which is using Artificial Intelligence to diagnose & treat neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioral disorders early to help children reach the fullest potential.
Dr. Taraman is an innovator, inventor, and advisor for several medical technology companies, helping them achieve FDA Breakthrough designation including for an AI-based autism spectrum disorder diagnostic, augmented reality based therapeutic for core symptoms of autism, and a gamma frequency based device to treat Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Taraman enjoys mentoring students as the Director of the Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence & Innovation Institute summer internship as well as working with UCI’s BioEngine students on their capstone projects.
Dr. Taraman is active in the community as the Vice President of the American Academy of Pediatrics – Orange County Chapter, Advisory Board Member of the Irvine Unified School District, and volunteering with Girl Scouts of America.
Clinical specialization is in traumatic brain injury and he helped to develop the Concussion Program at CHOC Children’s and presented nationally on traumatic brain injury. Dr. Taraman is also highly skilled in Healthcare Information Technology and chairs the Health Information Management Committee at CHOC Children’s.
Education: Magna cum laude undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from University of Michigan, M.D. from Wayne State University, residency and fellowship training at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, and continued professional development courses at the University of California, Irvine – The Paul Merage School of Business.
