Participate!

We are always looking for more participants for our ongoing studies! See below for a description of the studies we have going on in the lab right now:

The Teen Resilience Clinic

We are currently recruiting teens (ages 12-16) for a clinical trial investigating the potential for a talk therapy focused on positive emotions and experiences to reduce risk for depression among teenagers. Interested youth and their families may contact our team at 323-552-9256 or teenresilienceproject@gmail.com.

The Early Life Adversity Study

The Early Life Adversity Study is recruiting 12 to 15-year-olds to learn more about the effects of traumatic experiences on mental health in teens, with a special focus on identifying risk and protective factors for alcohol and drug problems. Teens do not need to have had traumatic experiences to qualify. Total participation time is about 7 to 11 hours spread over 5 visits at 6-month periods over 2 years, scheduled at your convenience!

For more information, please visit the BRoAD Lab website: https://sites.uci.edu/broad/early-life-adversity-study/. If interested, please email us at broadlab@uci.edu or call/text us at (657) 235-2253.

The Cardiovascular Study

If you are between the ages of 18 and 28, female, and identify as African American/Black, Hispanic/Latina, or Caucasian/White, you may be eligible to participate in the Cardiovascular Study! The purpose of this study is to learn how social, biological, and psychological factors contribute to racial/ethnic influences on cardiovascular health.

The Brain Development Study

Adolescents ages 13-17 needed for study on brain development! (Up to $315 for participation!)

Our Brain Development Study aims to learn more about how depression works differently in the brains of teens who have a history of trauma in childhood.  We anticipate that the knowledge gained from this study will allow us to inform more effective prevention and intervention methods for future teens struggling with depression as a result of childhood trauma. Teens (and a parent/legal guardian) may be eligible if they are between the ages of 13 – 17 and have experienced abuse or maltreatment in childhood (before age 10).  Teens do not have to have depression in order to qualify for the study.  The study involves 3 visits and the teen and their legal guardian can earn up to $315 for participation, plus mileage compensation. There are no medications or interventions involved with this study.  However, in addition to being compensated for their time and effort, teens receive a free diagnostic assessment and neuropsychiatric testing, and we can provide results of these assessments upon the family’s request (we can also provide referrals and resources for further evaluation and treatment, if the family is interested).  We offer appointments on the weekends and in the evening to accommodate work and school schedules, and we can also provide taxi transportation, if needed.
