Chulie Ulloa, MD, MSc

Dr. Ulloa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at UC Irvine School of Medicine, and Co-Director of the UCI Clinical & Translational Science Research Development Unit at the Institute for Clinical & Translational Science. She is also a faculty member for the Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC) and co-PI for the Biomedical and Translational Research Track for the UC PRIME Pathways Program (UC3P). Her clinical appointment in pediatric infectious diseases is at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). As a Southern California native, Dr. Ulloa graduated from UC San Diego with Bachelor of Science degrees in Physiology & Neuroscience and Psychology. Her love of travel and global health led her to Argentina on Fulbright and Fogarty Fellowships, where she conducted research for 2 years. She subsequently completed medical training at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she also earned a Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology, and worked with the CDC as a Hubert Global Health Fellow in Kenya. She went on to complete Residency in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital/Boston Medical Center. With support from the Pediatric Scientist Development Program, she completed clinical infectious diseases training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia concurrent with postdoctoral research training in the laboratory of Professor Victor Nizet at UC San Diego.
