Welcome

Welcome to the X Energy Lab at UC Irvine. We are interested in fundamental reacting flow physics and chemistry – especially those at previously unexplored scales and conditions, and study them to enable future power, propulsion, and energy system technologies. We utilize both experimental and numerical techniques, ranging from lab-scale tests and diagnostics to computational fluid mechanics and molecular dynamics.

Our current research interests include:
Propulsion: high-speed combustion, detonation, hypersonics, multi-phase reacting flows
Sustainable fuel: sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen, ammonia, hybrid fuel
Nanocarbon: nanodiamond, nanographene, high-temperature reforming and synthesis
