I regularly teach the following classes:
Bio Sci 93 DNA to Organisms
I co-teach this course with Professor Katie Thompson-Peer. Students are first-quarter BioSci majors. We use a flipped, high-structure format with a particular focus on problem-solving skills and understanding scientific figures. A recent syllabus is here. Taught each Fall quarter.
Bio Sci 100 Scientific Writing
This course is part of the upper-division writing and laboratory requirement for BioSci majors. Third-year students take this class to learn about scientific journal articles and how they are written as a prerequisite before taking BioSci lab courses. Each week students read a biology journal article, learn about an aspect of scientific writing, then take a writing quiz on the article. Taught every quarter by me or other instructors using the format that I developed. A recent syllabus is here.
Bio Sci D170 Applied Human Anatomy
This upper-division course plus lab is generally taken by juniors and seniors as an upper-division BioSci elective. It is taught in a flipped, high-structure format with one 3-hour lab per week plus lecture. The course design is designed to train students in self-regulated learning. The course is five units and the workload is very heavy. It is offered in Winter and Spring. A recent syllabus is here.
All of my classes benefit from the enthusiastic support of undergraduate learning assistants. I regularly use PollEverywhere, Perusall, Gradescope and Google Suite tools.
