I am Associate Professor of Anthropology and The Presidential Chair of Social Sciences to Advance Sikh Studies in the Department of Anthropology at UC Irvine. I am affiliated faculty with the Department of Asian American Studies, Global Studies and Religious Studies at UCI.
I am an Associate Editor of the journal Sikh Formations: Religion, Culture, Theory.
Research Areas: race, religion and minoritization; violence, citizenship and decolonization; Afro-South Asian entanglements and related conceptual work; anthropologies of/and sikhism, global sikh diasporas, sikh studies; feminist anthropology, gender and sexuality; critical university studies.
Regions of study: Uganda; East Africa; Africa; South Asia and transnational Punjab; African and South Asian diasporic relationalities; Indian Ocean and Black Atlantic connections.
