The REMIX Group received funding from the State of California’s one-time allocation in the 2021 State Budget for the Resilient and Innovative Mobility Initiative (RIMI) to research transit integration with resilience hubs.
This research addresses two issues impacting California’s public transit system: (1) the need for climate hazard preparedness to facilitate resource access during extreme events, and (2) negative safety perceptions leading to low ridership. California is developing neighborhood-level Community Resilience Centers to provide year-round services and emergency resources. This research evaluates the functions and impacts of these social infrastructure programs on resource access and resilience, aiming to enhance transit system integration and better align the operations of transit stations with resilience hubs. The primary objectives are to understand how transit-integrated social infrastructure impacts resilience, accessibility, and safety perceptions for historically marginalized groups and provide recommendations to local transit agencies for improving resilience.
