Welcome to UCI Costume Design! We’re pleased you’d like to learn more about us. Explore our website for costume specific information, and also consult the official UC Irvine MFA in Costume Design page for more institutional information. The MFA Costume Design program at UC Irvine is a dynamic, hands-on curriculum designed for innovative artists looking to advance their craft and storytelling skills in theater, film, and other media. Students will engage in a rigorous blend of studio courses, design projects, and production work, emphasizing both traditional and cutting-edge techniques. With access to world-class faculty, extensive resources, and collaborative opportunities across our thriving arts community, our graduates are well-prepared to lead in professional design environments. The program nurtures individual creativity while fostering strong collaborative skills in a supportive, inclusive setting. Costume students train in contemporary and period costume design, project management, team leadership, budgeting and financial negotiation using both traditional and digital communication tools. Our close proximity to Los Angeles familiarizes students with a vast range of materials, artists, vendors, research and career connections for the future.
