Role of transcription factor CREB in hippocampus to memory consolidation processes.

Guzowski & McGaugh, PNAS, 1997 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9122258)

This was the first demonstration of a critical role for the transcription factor CREB in converting recent experience into long-term memory (memory consolidation) using a spatially and temporally regulated disruption of CREB expression in the rodent hippocampus.
