Our health behaviors, symptoms experienced, views of health conditions, and response to illness do not occur in a vacuum. We are all embedded in our various cultural, socio-historical, bio-psycho-social contexts that influence how we live life.
The Kim Stress, Coping, and Health in Context Lab is led by Dr. Jacqueline H. J. Kim at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Our research aim is to examine physical and mental health across these diverse contexts, with the goal of translating findings to create or enhance psychosocial interventions that promote well-being. Areas of central focus are coping with (advanced/metastatic) cancer, internalizing symptoms with significance for disability/mortality (depressive, physical/somatic, traumatic stress), Asian American/immigrant or limited English proficiency populations, and the role of trauma or chronic adversity. More broadly, Dr. Kim collaborates on research for improving the health and quality of life for racial/ethnic minority and medically underserved populations.
Support Us!
The Kim Lab is dedicated to investigating the intersection of physical and mental health across various contexts to inform the development of psychosocial interventions promoting holistic well-being. Through our research and community engagement initiatives, we strive to bridge gaps in access to mental health resources and support services. However, sustaining this research necessitates ongoing support. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated if you resonate with our commitment to equitable health outcomes and wish to contribute to the Kim Lab.
Some examples of how donations can help future talent and your community:
- offer paid opportunities to lower-income students to focus on research and studies
- opportunities for trainees to attend scientific conferences to become scientists improving care for cancer survivors or the health of those in your community.
- allow more language access for better representation of patients who do not speak English as a primary language
- seed projects to examine the experiences of patients with rare conditions or underrepresented communities
