APOS 2024 Health Equity Scholar

The American Psychosocial Oncology Society’s Health Equity Scholar Program recognizes those who show leadership and commitment to advancing equity in cancer and psychosocial oncology care.

Congratulations to Dr. Jacqueline H.J. Kim PhD for being selected as a 2024 APOS Health Equity Scholar!

She will be presenting on “Coping Strategies among Vietnamese American Refugees with Advanced/Metastatic Cancer,” first-authored by our lab’s research specialist Annie Pham with community partners Dung Hua & Becky Nguyen at VACF, at this year’s APOS meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

SBM Palliative Care SIG Best Student Abstract Award

Congratulations to Karen Llave, MPH, first author and public health doctoral candidate, on receiving the Best Student Abstract Award from the Palliative Care Special Interest Group at the Society of Behavioral Medicine! The submission entitled “A systematic review of psychosocial/behavioral interventions for advanced/metastatic cancer that incorporate culture” will be featured as a brief oral presentation during the 45th Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions.

Thanks also to co-authors of this work (Karli Cheng, Amy Ko, Annie Pham, Marissa Ericson, PhD, Belinda Campos, PhD, Hector Perez-Gilbe, MPH, MLIS, Jacqueline H. J. Kim, PhD) and our undergraduate lab members who helped with the initial processes of the systematic review.

Coming Soon: The final manuscript is accepted and will be published shortly in the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine– Woohoo team!

Early-Stage Investigator Grant Award

Created by the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC), the Anti-Cancer Challenge (ACC) Pilot Project was formed to help advance diagnostic technologies, therapeutic devices, and bio-behavioral interventions for cancer patients. Peer-reviewed grant awards were selectively given to those who demonstrate their pursuit of advancing innovative cancer research in various fields.

Congratulations to Dr. Jacqueline H. J. Kim, PhD for being awarded the Early-Stage Investigator Award! This award will allow her to continue contributing to the field of cancer research with new pilot projects.

UCI CCRI Grant Award

The Campus-Community Research Incubator Program (CCRI) is a small grant funded by UCI’s Institute for Clinical & Translational Science (ICTS). The grant is designed to foster collaborative, research-oriented projects to teams composed of campus researchers and community organization representatives.

This grant was awarded to Jacqueline H. J. Kim, PhD in collaboration with her community partners for an upcoming study on a stress and resilience measurement for Vietnamese Americans. Adhering to CCRI’s mission, this funding will help promote research on identifying barriers that the Vietnamese American community faces in health research.
