Project Background: The Refugee History and Advanced/Metastatic Cancer Experience for Vietnamese Americans Study is launched in collaboration with the Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation (Co-PIs Dr. Kim and Executive Director Becky Nguyen).
Project Aims: This study aims to better understand how Vietnamese Americans or their parents with a refugee background are coping with advanced/metastatic cancer. We hope to learn more about how past experiences of adversity may impact how people currently manage their cancer. Experiences shared by our participants will help guide the development of culturally appropriate support resources for Vietnamese Americans that encompass their unique history and enhances community resilience.
Study Design: In this 2-part study, participants complete a paper/online survey and an interview exploring their family/personal refugee history, how they are managing their cancer, and how this life context may relate to their advanced/metastatic cancer experience. All materials and interactions are provided in English or Vietnamese to better connect with the participants. Based on the participant’s preferences, they can complete the study online or in person. Upon completion, participants receive $75 as a thank-you compensation.
Project Funding: This study is funded by the American Psychological Foundation.
This study is actively enrolling participants. If you or someone you know may be interested in participating, please see below for more information and reach out to us with any questions.
