UCI IRB HS #2955
Project Background: The Stress and Resilience Measurement for Vietnamese Americans Study is a new pilot research study led by Dr. Kim, in partnership with Executive Director Becky Nguyen from the Vital Access Care Foundation, and in collaboration with Dr. George Slavich at UCLA.
Project Aims: The ultimate goal of this study is to enhance understanding of the various mental and physical health-related disparities that Vietnamese Americans experience. By developing and translating screening tools for Vietnamese American adults with limited English proficiency (LEP), we will contribute to uncovering important predictors of health in the understudied Vietnamese American community.
Study Design: The study mainly consists of two surveys over the span of two weeks that will each take 45-50 minutes to complete. Eligible participants will be provided surveys in-person or via email/mail (REDCap/paper) for baseline and two-week follow-up assessments. Within the second week, five of the participants will participate in a 30-minute cognitive interview about the measures. We will also examine the feasibility of collecting dyadic data to evaluate the relationship between stress/resilience factors and mental/physical health among family members. Participants who are eligible and complete the study will be compensated with $125.
Project Funding: This study is funded by the Campus-Community Research Incubator Award funded by the UCI Institute for Clinical & Translational Science.
