About

Hi, I’m Shawn. I did my undergraduate studies at UCSD. While there I interned at a biomedical device incubator, where I eventually went on to work full time after graduating. There my love of designing, tinkering and 3D printing blossomed. My previous research focused on development of devices aimed at mitigation of reperfusion injury resulting from myocardial infarction as well as devices aimed at treating chronic no-option cardiac patients. After my stint there I joined the Master of Biotechnology program at University of California, Irvine, and joined the Lane Lab. My Masters thesis work focused on the effects of  vagotomy on viral CNS host defense.

Following completion of my Masters in Biotechnology I elected to extend my stay as Lab Manager of the Lane Lab. My stay was further extended after being admitted as a PhD student. Now my research focuses on aspects of microglial function and defense in response to a viral model of multiple sclerosis.

In my free time I play soccer, hockey and volleyball, do some rock climbing and enjoy playing videogames and 3D printing! I do not like fish.
