Laura Splan is an artist from New York City who explores science, culture, and technology through her innovative art. Much of her artwork is rooted in biological sciences and invokes curiosity, wonder, and play within her audiences. Beginning August 24, her piece, “Baroque Bodies (Sway)”, will be featured in the Future Tense: Art, Complexity, and Uncertainty, part of Getty’s 2024 PST ART: Art & Science Collide initiative. It is an interactive audio-visual installation where audiences’ movements influence the 3D animations that appear for viewing. Many elements of the piece were created and influenced through collaborations with scientists, including Dr. Park, and their shared interests in environmental exposures and epigenetics. The exhibit is open to the public and runs August 24-December 14, 2024 at the UC Irvine Beall Center for Art + Technology, and University Art Gallery.
