Bardwell Lab graduate student Leonila Lagunes has won the prestigious UCI School of Biological Sciences Howard A. Schneiderman Fellowship Award. The Schneiderman Award is given annually to an outstanding graduate researcher that is near completion of their doctorate.  This award honors the memory of Dr. Howard Schneiderman, former dean of the School and member of the National Academy of Sciences.  Congrats Leo!

Bardwell lab graduate student Leonila Lagunes has been awarded the prestigious President’s Year Dissertation Fellowship.

Lee wrote a ‘Dispatch’ for Current Biology, entitled “Pseudokinases: Flipping the ATP for AMPylation“.  It has just been published (January 2019).

Our new study, “Miles to go (mtgo) encodes FNDC3 proteins that interact with the chaperonin subunit CCT3 and are required for NMJ branching and growth in Drosophila” has been published in the Jan 1, 2019 issue of Developmental Biology.  This work is a collaboration between several research groups, including the Bardwell, MacGregor and Marsh labs at UCI.

Bardwell Lab graduate student Leonila Lagunes recently gave a talk at the 2018 SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference.  The title of her talk was “Multisite Phosphorylation as a Regulatory Mechanism of Signal Transduction”.

The labs of Lee Bardwell and Marian Waterman were 1 of 5 teams awarded a pilot award jointly funded by the UCI School of Biological Sciences and the UCI School of Medicine.  The team will study “Novel Links Between Wnt Signaling, Centrosomes, and Cancer“.  See the announcement here.

Prof. Lee Bardwell has been named as the 2017-2018 Dean’s Honoree for Teaching Excellence by the UCI School of Biological Sciences.  See the announcement here.

Our paper “The WW domain of the scaffolding protein IQGAP1 is neither necessary nor sufficient for binding to the MAPKs ERK1 and ERK2” has been published in the  Journal of Biological Chemistry (2017, 292: 8750-8761)

Bardwell Lab graduate student Leonila Lagunes has been awarded a 2016 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Fellowship.  Leo is being co-mentored by Prof.  German Enciso in the Mathematics Dept at UCI.
