Congratulations to Francisco and Harika on Their Recent Publication in Molecular Metabolism!

We are happy to share that our lab alumnus and current lab member, Francisco Carranza and Harika Pulipelli, have co-authored and contributed to a new paper in Molecular Metabolism! Their work, titled Nutrient control of splice site selection contributes to methionine addiction of cancer, explores the metabolic vulnerability of cancer cells to methionine restriction and its impact on pre-mRNA splicing- contributing valuable insights to the molecular cancer field.

A huge congratulations to them and all the collaborators involved in this achievement!

Congratulations to Harika Pulipelli on Receiving the AACR Scholar-In-Training Award!

Harika Pulipelli recently attended the AACR Special Conference in Cancer Research: RNAs as Drivers, Targets, and Therapeutics in Cancer, held in Seattle, WA. At the conference, Harika presented her research on “The Ratio of Alternatively Spliced KRAS Isoforms and Its Role in the Tumorigenesis of Colorectal Cancer.” We are immensely proud of Harika for being honored with the merit-based Scholar-In-Training Award. The Hertel Lab is very excited to be conducting cancer research and sharing our findings with the community.

Congratulations, Harika on Your New Role as a Science Writer for “The Loh Down on Science” on NPR!

We are elated to share in the excitement as one of our own, Harika Reddy Pulipelli, embarks on a remarkable journey as a science writer for “The Loh Down on Science,” a daily show on NPR. 🎙️🔬

In her new role, while she works on her Ph.D., Harika will be translating the wonders of scientific exploration into engaging and accessible scripts, making complex topics comprehensible to a broad audience. Her passion for scientific communication and knack for storytelling will undoubtedly shine through, and we can’t wait to tune in to her contributions to this incredible program.

Here’s to an exciting future filled with science, storytelling, and the pursuit of knowledge. We look forward to hearing the stories you’ve written and celebrating your continued success!

Congratulations once again, Harika! 🥳🎉🚀

Megan and Harika officially join the lab!

We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to Megan Holmes and Harika Reddy Pulipelli, the newest graduate students of the Hertel Lab family!

🔬 Megan Holmes joins us from the Cellular and Molecular Biosciences (CMB) umbrella program.

🌟 Harika Reddy Pulipelli also joins us from the Cellular and Molecular Biosciences (CMB) umbrella program.

Let’s join hands in fostering a vibrant and inclusive research environment where curiosity knows no bounds. We can’t wait to witness the incredible contributions that Megan and Harika will undoubtedly make to our lab’s scientific pursuits.

Once again, welcome to the Hertel Lab, Megan and Harika! 🎉🔬✨

Welcome Harika Pulipelli!

We welcome CMB rotation student Harika Pulipelli to the lab. More students are welcome to check out what we do.

Welcome Jessie Altieri – our new PhD student

We welcome PhD student Jessie Altieri to the Hertel lab. Jessie will evaluate if 4sU labeling influences the efficacy of RNA processing.  She will also start a coronavirus project. Very exciting!
