Project Background

Asian Americans have more sleep deficiencies than Whites and Hispanics, but Asians are less represented in sleep disparity studies compared to other ethnic minorities. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic and rise in Asian hate crimes have increased the mental and emotional toll on Asian Americans.

Project Description

The current study is one of the first to investigate the mechanisms and impact of sleep disparities on health of Asian immigrants. Over a 5-year period, investigators will collect and analyze two waves of data to investigate immigrant stressors, potential protective factors,  sleep health and  cardiometabolic  risk factors.

Target Population

250 Chinese Americans, 250 Korean Americans, 250 Vietnamese Americans 30 years and older and living in Orange County and Los Angeles, California.

Project Funding

National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) (R01MD015186), National Institutes of Health (NIH).
