Embryonic cells divide much faster than adult cells. The study probes the mechanism behind this. It shows that cyclin B3 drives the fast pace of embryonic mitoses, in part because it is a much more potent activator of Cdk1 than cyclin B1.

Our latest paper, The WW domain of IQGAP1 binds directly to the p110α catalytic subunit of PI 3-kinase , is now in press at Biochemical Journal.

A peptide version of IQGAP1’s WW domain has potent anti-tumor activity, and this study identifies a possible target: the catalytic subunit of PI 3-kinase, a known driver oncogene, and one of the most frequently mutated genes in human cancer.
The study is a collaboration with the Fruman Lab. Jane Bardwell is the lead author, and three Bardwell Lab undergraduates are also authors!
