ENGRMAE 150: Mechanics of Materials

In this course, which is mainly taken by juniors in mechanical and aerospace engineering, I introduce fundamental mechanics of materials concepts and problem solving skills. Additionally, I required students to work in small groups to solve problems and engage with the material during class. Almost every class session included time for students to practice solving problems.

I teach this course in Fall and Spring quarters.

A peek into my teaching practices can be seen in this video of my class on October 25th, 2018. This class period is the day following an exam, shows how I engage students in problem solving during class, and provide time for students’ questions.

ENGRMAE 295: Developing Teaching Excellence

I developed this course for graduate level engineering students who are interested in developing their teaching skills in possible preparation for a career as a college teacher. Using the literature on engineering education and how people learn, students developed and designed a course syllabus for a hypothetical course and wrote a statement of teaching philosophy.

I teach this course in Winter quarters.
