From the 1979 revolution until today

In the late 20th century, with the demise of the Pahlavi dynasty (1925 – 1979) and the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, religion fell into the hands of the government. As the Revolution was young and the government was too avid and strict to give the society some leeway, music was once again banned and limited to the cellars of houses. Music academies were shut down, carrying musical instruments was forbidden, and even music was eliminated from radio and television broadcasts. After the Arab invasion and the Safavid reign, the Islamic Revolution was the third period in which Persian music came to a complete standstill.
