Recording Interviews

Depending on your research, recording interview footage with the subject could be a great asset in understanding their perspective and experience, as well as provide an opportunity to collect unexpected or supplementary data. There are two different styles of interviews that could be conducted in video research: immediate interviews and post-production interviews.

Immediate Interview:

  • These interviews are conducted during or immediately after a lesson, or after the data has been collected.
  • Researchers are able to collect reflections from the participants, while their memories are fresh.

Post-production Interview

  • These interviews are conducted with the participants after time has passed since the initial data collection.
  • Researchers are able to review the footage beforehand and select specific footage to ask the participants about to obtain deeper insight about their decisions.

Within any group there will be certain individuals who are enthusiastic about the study and are more willing to provide a interview. As much as these ‘key informants’ provide substantial information, it is important to collect interviews from a variety of individuals.
