Analysis Tips

Analyze early and often

  1. Share key video segments with other researchers in order to get multiple interpretations, ideally at an early stage of video analysis before interpretations of events have had a chance to fully solidify in the researcher’s mind (Barron & Engle, 2007).
  2. “…follow a circular model of gathering and analyzing data” (Lichtman, 2012, p. 247).
  3. Remember:

At an informal, but essential, level, analysis is happening from the first moments of data collection. During observation, decisions are made about where to be, what to attend to, what to record, and so on. … [Decisions] shape the study based on analytic judgments about what data are desirable.
